I'm a civil engineer and Chartered Construction Manager (MCIOB) with a Masters in Construction Management. For twelve years I've delivered major infrastructure and energy projects across the Middle East and the UK, where other people live with the decisions I make. I began What Are We Missing? after watching capable people with good information still make the wrong call. Five years of reading and writing followed. I wanted to understand the questions they had missed, and give readers a practical way to ask those questions before deciding. That question becomes harder to ignore when a machine can do much of the thinking for us. It can draft the analysis, summarise the evidence and deliver a confident answer. The person deciding still has to judge whether the question was right, what the answer leaves out and who bears the consequences. The Cognitive Crisis in AI-Augmented Work takes that concern into our use of AI. I rewrote its second edition for parents first: how do we help children use these tools while keeping their own understanding and judgment? I live in the UK with my wife and our two sons. These books are what I want to leave them.
